TV in Spanish Posted at 2/03/2012 10:23:00 AM 0 comments (+)
Thanks for the guest post by Jo Levy

You hear so much about how television rots your brain, but I would also argue that it could be very educational. I recently noticed on Direct.TV that many channels in foreign languages are offered. When I was in college, I studied abroad in Spain for a semester and was also a Spanish minor. In my opinion, the best way to learn a foreign language is to be totally immersed in it, which I was for 5 months. One regret that I have always had is that I did not keep up on my Spanish skills, so I have lost a lot of the fluency that I once had. Ever since I discovered all of these channels in Spanish, I have been able to practice more. I used to be able to hear a sentence in Spanish and immediately know what it meant without having to go through the extra step of translating it into English; the Spanish language was just that familiar to me. I have definitely noticed that since I started watching television in Spanish, I am able to understand more quickly like I used to.
