People have always told me that I really could bake and cook well, and that I should start a bakery in my hometown where there are no real good bakeries. I bake several pies and cakes that some would call exceptional but everyone calls delicious. I have baked these for fundraisers and other events, and I sold for quite a sum. Even people who don't know me have asked where I bought the pie or cake so they could buy some as gifts or just to enjoy at a later date. Even a few times people have paid me to make one of my special apple pies or cheesecakes that I would bake in my home. No matter how good my skills in the kitchen are I know I needed to think about the business side first. I thought about this for a while and realized to do this I would need a loan and a good business plan. Also a good location would almost be necessary. Once I really thought about the day to day functions of this small business I realize that in this day and age accepting credit cards and debit cards is a must. If I were to open this store I would need to be able to fill large orders, but to do that I would need to be receiving payments quickly to cover the expense that the order costs to make. I know that I need to have a good credit card processor and an honest bank or other financial institution that has a merchant services credit card processing division that caters to small businesses and one that can handle online payment processing. Now all I need to do is search for and talk to several merchant account providers to find out what they cost and how they could help me develop and grow my business.
