I didn't want to give her a tangible good since she is moving across the country. I struggled trying to find a personal gift that is also useful, unlike some of the other “inside joke” type of gifts we often give each other. While staring endlessly at the television set the week before, I came across a prepaid card commercial.

Usually I dislike giving gift cards, but something struck me with this specific advertisement. After doing some follow up research, I found out I could purchase a prepaid card with her name on it and include a personalized picture on the front, like those credit cards you see people carry around. So, a few minutes later and I ordered her a personalized prepaid card, which has a beautiful picture of the two of us on the front from when we were in college.

The card was a big hit at the party, because although she will be 5,000 miles away, I will always be in her wallet. I didn’t see the comical aspect until everyone started laughing, but it is truly a card she will always remember. The best part, is the prepaid card is already activated and ready to go, meaning she is not going to be charged any fees or activation charges. I have had a few gift cards charge me $3 a month, so I made sure the prepaid card had no strings attached. Even though my friend is across the globe, she still has to look at my ugly face every time she goes to use the card.
