Utahns Can Now Legally Collect Rainwater! Posted at 7/02/2010 04:41:00 PM 0 comments (+)
Honestly, I wasn't aware that there's such law that prohibits one from collecting rainwater here in Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utahns can now legally collect rainwater, and at least a few are taking advantage of the freebie.

State Sen. Scott Jenkins, a Republican from Plain City, sponsored a bill in this year's legislative session to let residents collect rainwater for use on lawns and gardens.

People who want to harvest rainwater must register with the state Division of Water Rights. Residents are allowed to stockpile the water in a 2,500-gallon underground tank or they can have two containers limited to 100 gallons apiece.

Salt Lake City residents Trey and Erin Bean signed up to harvest rainwater by registering on the Internet, a process they say took five minutes. Now they have a 50-gallon barrel full of water after June's heavy rains.
