Thirty-seven years ago a newly married man took off his wedding ring to wash his hands at a campsite in Helper and forgot to put it back on. Martha Craig found it and for years wondered how to find the owner.
Friday she was interviewed by the Standard-Examiner then KSL-TV, and 24 hours later the ring was returned.
Terry Palmer-Moser and Martha Craig met for the first time Saturday afternoon. Martha handed Terry the ring she'd hung onto for 37 years.
Terry's husband, Lynn, passed away from cancer in the early '90s. She has since remarried, and she says it's a miracle the ring has been returned.
"It's just a treasure," Terry said. "It has so many memories of some really good years, 20 years of a good marriage and three children."
Martha says the ring went through a lot during the time she had it, including kids, grandkids, and jewelry thieves who robbed her home twice but never took the ring.
The only clues she had to its owner were the two first names engraved on the inside and the wedding date.
Terry brought her marriage certificate Saturday and everything matched up.
The two women exchanged phone numbers and discovered a number of coincidences. Terry's current husband, Blair, actually met Martha years ago and went to school with a member of her family.
